People come to Flores to see Tikal which was settled by the Mayans in around 700 BC.

Flores is really an island in on the edge of Peten Itza Lake.

Temple I is the quintessential postcard picture of Tikal.

Only monkeys like this little guy are allowed on many of the pyramids.

Looking back towards the temples from temple IV.

Another view from the top of temple IV.

It was a sunset tour, but since it’s the rainy season, clouds got in the way of a nice sunset.

The next day I wanted to stay closer to the jungle so I went to El Remate which is on the other side of the lake from Flores. I was the only one in the hotel so the lady said the dorm was “too big for me” and she gave me a private room complete with balcony and lake view.

Jungle Trek. It started off easy like this, but it soon got much harder!

The goal of the jungle trek is the viewpoint to be able to see the lake.
