In New Zealand and throughout Australia I’ve seen people with these rental campervans and I thought that might be a good idea. They basically have everything except for running water (so no toilet or shower). I had a few days to spare so I decided to rent one for a week to get me from Sydney to Brisbane. It’s a 10 hour drive (925 km/575 miles), but since I had time, I wouldn’t have to drive too much each day. My goal was to just relax and enjoy time alone reading and relaxing. I also wanted to stick to the beaches so that I could hear the ocean waves from my campsite. I achieved this except for the last night in Brisbane. My first stop was Myall Lakes which was 3.5 hours from Sydney. The first day didn’t get off to a good start. It was a two hour bus ride across Sydney to get from where I was staying to the campervan rental place (Greater Sydney is absolutely massive) and then the van wasn’t ready. I had to sit for another hour or so while they finished up to make the van ready. They did compensate me by refunding the fee for the GPS. So I didn’t get on the road until about 12:30 that first day. Then when I finally made it to the campground, I realized that everything was on the honor system so you just put cash into a money collection box. This is great, except that I didn’t have change so I had to drive 30 minutes back into town, buy a bottle of water, and then drive back to to the campsite. I didn’t end up setting up for my first night of camping until about 6:00.

When parked for camping, there’s a canvas dome that can go over the open back door to let in some air. FIY-It’s not the easiest thing to do by yourself. I persevered though!

There is storage under the front of the bed for the stove, utensils, and dry food. There is also a small refrigerator which is that silver thing on the right. Next to the fridge is a water jug as well. The car has two batteries. One functions like normal, helping the car to start. The other is to run the fridge, lights, DVD player, radio, etc.
