Bariloche, Argentina was founded in 1902 and is in the Lake District of Chile and Argentina on the coast of Hahuel Huapi Lake.  It is a popular destination as a stepping off point for all the summer and winter activities.  People spend weeks in this area doing single and/or multi day hikes.  Other options are mountain biking, fishing, rafting, kayaking, and horseback riding.

This is actually a picture I took. My new camera has a panoramic setting so I can do cool postcard looking pictures like this. View from Cerro Campanerio looking east towards the many other lakes, hills, and mountains.

In 1934, the Patagonia and Andean regions were completely uninhabited and virgin territories, but the the Nahuel Huapi National Park was created and tourists started coming. A hotel was needed so in 1938 Hotel Llao Llao was opened. In 1939 a fire destroyed the building completely, but it was reopened on December 15th, 1940. Since then, members of the aristocracy, officials, diplomats and famous guests have stayed at the hotel. Although it closed in 1978 for a period of 15 years, the spirit of the hotel remained intact. The hotel opened its doors to the public again in 1993. It’s known as one of Argentina’s most famous hotels due to its history and its amazing location.
