Because of the ocean current and continental shelf conditions, Kaikoura has some of the most wildlife in the world.  Locals include whales, dolphins, NZ fur seals, penguins, petrels, and albatross.

This beach was right across the street from my hostel. Maybe a 2 minute walk….

The Kaikoura Peninsula. one of the must-dos while here is to do the four hour walk around the whole peninsula. It was amazing! My pictures don’t do it justice. PS-This obviously isn’t my picture, but something that I got from Google.

The Fyffe House is Kaikoura’s oldest surviving building. It was built on a foundation of whale vertebrae in 1842.

Sheep shearing. I went to a sheep shearing show and since I was the only one, I got to bottle feed a baby lamb.

This is 6 months worth of growth. This wool goes for just a little over 2 USD per kilo. One sheep with provide 3 kilos.
